I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of

His Majesty's Treasury Mr. Bevir's letter of the 27th ultimo (53838/2/37) with enclosures relating to a proposal that in approved cases and under certain conditions British subjects who have been evacuated from Shanghai to Hong Kong should be repatriated to the United Kingdom at the expense of His Majesty's Government.

In reply I am to request you to inform

Mr. Secretary Ormsby Gore that My Lords have been furnished

33 with a copy of a letter, dated the 2nd instant, addressed

to your Department by the Foreign Office in regard to this proposal and that Their Lordships concur in the objections raised in the Foreign Office letter.
